They're capable of trimming by hand but designed to be used in a cordless drill or drill press for fastest results. Any common household drill with a 3/8 chuck or larger will work.
They're easily adjusted by loosening the set screw at the top which allows the cutter to be pushed in or out to set trim length. If you ever need to set it, I recommend starting with an in tolerance brass cartridge for the size trimmer you're using. Insert it into the sleeve until it seats at the shoulder and push the endmill down until it touches the cartridge and then tighten down the set screw. Double check to make sure the endmill didn't shift after tightening since the screw tends to pull it up. Use calipers/verniers for precise adjustments and may need pliers if the endmill is tight.
They'll be set to trim in tolerance to SAMMI specs before being shipped out but advise to go light on the first trim and double check case length regularly.
I also advise cleaning the inside trimmer on the cartridge side with a Q-tip or paper towel after every use and inspect for stuck brass chips to avoid variation or inconsistencies.
If flying brass chips are a problem you can tape over the holes and they'll fall out the bottom. To avoid chip build up just tap it out every now and then.
